The memory shows Bakugou barging into a waiting room - the wrong one, apparently, and finding Todoroki there. Unfortunately for him, Todoroki is immediately dismissive of him and is instead much more focused on someone else. Midoriya :) This pisses him off to no end.
The flashbacks aren't visible in the memory, but Deku's lines are said out loud, in his voice. In the memory, recalling those specific events is another source of anger, and it sets him off immediately, to a pretty high degree.
It doesn't help that Todoroki is extremely dismissive of him, and Bakugou's left frustrated and with a strong desire to win and prove himself.
The memory takes place in a middle school classroom. The teacher jokingly mentions that he would hand out future career form to the class, but he's assuming everyone wants to become a Hero. Judging from the enthusiastic reaction from the class, that seems to be the case.
But there is ONE kid who doesn't seem to enjoy being lumped in together with the rest of the class, and that kid is Bakugou, who immediately makes it a point to highlight how superior he is compared to all those other "extras". Bakugou's not aiming to join just any hero school, but the top hero school, and very proudly proclaims his intention of becoming the best hero out there (and also crazy rich). According to him, he already aced the mock exam, and it's clear he believes his future is set in stone.
At least until the Teacher makes it a point to mention Deku (who for people in Imeeji will be recognizible as Mori) is aiming to attend UA as well. The class laughs at him as if the very idea is ridiculous, but Bakugou gets absolutely furious that he's daring to even consider it. From the memory it's abundantly clear Deku is terrified of Bakugou and trying to placate him, with very little success. Although it's not shown, from his reaction it's easy to guess he's been bullied for a long time.
Even after the class is over, Bakugou absolutely refuses to let this one go, and goes out of his way to try and discourage Deku from even attempting to go to UA. He burns his notebook down, openly belittles and threaten him, and at the end of it even suggests he kills himself if he wants to get a quirk. The memory ends with the two parting ways, and Bakugou threatening Deku further when he seems to have any sort of reaction to his bullying.
IMPRESSIONS: - Bakugou's taking Deku's desire to go to UA as a personal slight against him. It's obvious he does not think of his actions as things Deku wants separated from him.
- He's obviously younger than he is in Imeeji here, and both he and Mori look smaller compared to their current selves
- Nobody gives a shit of how he treats Deku, or even the rest of his class. His teacher is clearly not lifting a single finger to stop the dissing (to everyone) and bullying (to Deku)
- He ... has a really big ego ... and is ESPECIALLY ambitious
Somewhere down the line Deku and Bakugou both got into UA, and it's time for their very first battle lesson. They're sorted in two groups: Heroes and Villains, and as luck would have it, their teams end up facing each other at the very first match.
In theory, this excercise has Deku&Uraraka, and Bakugou&Iida. Bakugou, however, is ON A MISSION to fucking crush Deku, and is basically throwing away the goal of the exercise in favor of going after him pretty immediately. Having just found out that Deku had a pretty powerful Quirk all along, but lied about it, he's absolutely furious and convinced he'd been mocking him and making fun of him behind his back for basically their entire lives.
Even without using his Quirk, however, Deku proves to be way more capable than he expected, and he's able to read his movements and dodge because of it. At Deku's insistence that he's no longer his worthless punching bag, and that he is instead "the Deku who always does his best" he gets EVEN ANGRIER and it's clear he's absolutely fucking losing it with each passing moment. And as Deku refuses to use his Quirk against him, it gets even worse.
So like any reasonable person, he decides to use his specially made Bracers that store his nitroglycerin like sweat to cause an extremely large explosion to show his power. He at least has enough sense to not want to hit him DIRECTLY, so as to not KILL him, but it's an obvious poor manoeuvre dictated solely by rage.
Deku still isn't using his Quirk, however, and he decides to just go with a good old fashioned beating. He is RELENTLESS and Deku can't catch a break - it's noted that Bakugou is a pure beast when it comes to fighting, way more strategic than he seems, and undeniably strong. Over and over again, he's aiming to impress in everyone's mind, and especially Deku's, that he is ABOVE him.
The two end up in a yelling match, in which Bakugou accuses Deku of mocking him and looking down on him (again), and Deku tries to explains that he wants to win against him because he thinks he's awesome. At the end of it, they each throw their strongest move against the other - only Deku's was a bait to let Uraraka, his partner during the exercise, get the chance to steal the bomb and win the exercise.
This results in Deku's team winning, even though Bakugou's undoubtly won the fight. Bakugou does NOT take it well at all and is very clearly on the verge of a breakdown. Even after the fight is over and each teacher and students review it and what happened in it, he doesn't break out of it. It only gets worse as he sees what his classmates, and more specifically Todoroki, are able to do.
IMPRESSIONS:
- Throughout the fight he mentions that he believes Deku is making fun of him/mocking him/looking down on him/tricking him SEVERAL times. It's something he's absolutely certain of.
- This memory makes it crystal clear that despite his ego and confidence, he has a massive inferiority complex. He doesn't just want to be the best, he needs to. Boy's insecure as fuck and masking it.
This memory is going to just have some extremely normal, extremely regular home life for the Bakugous. Hardcore and his mother are absolutely the same, not only does he take after her in looks but in personality as well, she's just as fiery and that seems to be an endless source of trouble for his father who is a far more docile person.
Things he will gather from this: - His parents are both designers - His mother is such a nag!!!!!!!!!!!!
DESCRIPTION: The memory shows Hardcore just heading back to the dorms and stumbling upon a conversation by two students from the general department of education, who heard about Class 1-A's decision to throw a concert to lift everyone's moods after Shit Happened, and are NOT HAPPY about it. They snidely remark that they're the ones always causing trouble, and Hardcore is IMMEDIATELY annoyed by it. There's a weird sense of loyalty toward his class which just makes this all the more infuriating.
When they are in the dorms, the class very excitedly goes over plans for the concert, but they hit their first roadblock since their musical expert, Jirou, is not proficent enough with the drums to be able to teach them to someone else. One of his classmates, however, recalls that Hardcore was forced to take music classes before, and that prompts another to try and get him to take up the position. He DOESN'T want to do it but the moment he is challenged and it is implied that it's "too hard for him" he basically NEEDS to prove he absolutely can fucking do it, thank you.
And he can! HE'S DOWNRIGHT PERFECT. But he still refuses to take the role, and he takes it ESPECIALLY bad when his classmates tries to convince him by saying "if you help, you'll be a good person". He goes over how this is a waste of time, that this is basically self-gratification and that the other departments don't deserve it, anyway, since they're under the impression that they're getting targeted by villains because they get their jollies out of it or something. So instead of doing this to PLEASE their ENEMIES, and to give them a good time, they should do it to battle them and KILL THEM WITH THEIR MUSIC.
Pages here, it's only the flashbacks, so his conversations with Deku are not included
Description
The memory shows an adorable tiny Hardcore nerding out and being extremely excited over All Might, the strongest, most coolest Hero who ever existed. He's so strong no matter who he's against, and in the end, he always wins! His eyes basically sparkle as he talks about him, and it's obvious it's his number one inspiration, and his goal and objective.
There's then a bit of him having won a fight against two kids who tried to start shit with him, and though he's sniffling, he very proudly declares that a hero always wins in the end.
Sludge Villain incident ^ In which Bakugou gets attacked by a villain that is trying to take over his body. It is extremely painful
League of Villains ^ All Might is unable to go full power because Bakugou's there, and Bakugou himself has to try and fend off 6 Villains who wants to capture him again. All parts with the rest of Class 1-A are not in the memory obvs since it's from his POV
In short, as a young child Bakugou already showed himself to be extraordinarily gifted at just about anything - he was admired and revered by the other children, and praised quite a lot by adults. This build up confidence and a belief that he was better than just about everyone else, who couldn't catch up to him and do things that he considered easy.
On the other hand, it also cemented a belief that NOT being the best means being worthless. This is why when child Deku, who is just about the worst, tries to help HIM, who is the best, he views it as an insult and a direct threat.
This is a classroom memory, with CERTAIN 1-A students being desperate over having Not Studied at all. Bakugou's got the third highest grades in his class (higher than mori take that loser), and one of his classmates successfully taunts him into giving him lessons.
Once the classroom finds out about what the practical exam is going to be, Bakugou seems to be in a pretty shitty mood, immediately antagonizing Deku who, apparently, has been taking inspiration from him and using his moves to improve himself. He issues a direct challenge to him and Todoroki both.
From the memory it's clear he's feeling under pressure and there's something that is definitely bothering him. Hardcore will be aware that it's, well, his self-worth issues basically. If he doesn't prove himself to be better than both of them, then he's nothing.
It's the start of the Sports festival (of which unfortunately he already knows the end result), and Bakugou is chosen as the first year representative as he got the highest score during the entrance exam. He's asked to deliver a speech, and what he does instead is declaring that he will be the victor, and win the tournament. Which obviously pisses everyone off.
Though people mistake it for simple arrogance, Deku is able to understand this is actually Bakugou forcing himself in a corner so he HAS to win.
